Primary Health Care
Santa Casa currently has four functional healthcare units that work within the primary and outpatient healthcare framework from a community health perspective. They are organised according to Santa Casa’s geographical area of influence and are spread across different municipalities in the city of Lisbon.
These healthcare units promote a multidisciplinary approach with different target groups (children, adolescents, adults and senior citizens) and offer a wide range of medical specialties. On the other hand, they also provide access to other health facilities supported by Misericórdia de Lisboa, such as The Hospital da Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa (Portuguese Red Cross Hospital) or the Clínica de Chelas (Chelas Clinic), but only upon prior referral by the Santa Casa attending physician.
In addition to general and family healthcare, they offer specialised services in mental health, oral health, dental care, pediatrics, nutrition, multiple disabilities (in a residential home) and a special programme called GPS (health project management), which develops community intervention projects in collaboration with health departments aimed at creating knowledge and disseminating best practices.

This unit provides personalised healthcare to all users with a valid Santa Casa Health Card or other beneficiaries under collaborative agreements and protocols.

Santa Casa patients may also be referred to the SNS and/or other facilities under agreements and/or protocols signed with Misericórdia de Lisboa to access other medical and surgical specialties.
